PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections are have been proven successful in improving clinical outcomes and decreasing the re-tear rate in arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff tears.

Published in the June 2019 edition of The Journal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research is the most recent meta-analysis on the subject of PRP in shoulder orthopaedics.  The conclusion states:

Conclusions: The current systematic review and meta-analysis reveals that PRP treatment with arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff tears decreases the retear rate and improves the clinical outcomes.

Despite these science, most ortho’s are slow to mandate prp in their surgical protocol.  For this reason, we supplement our post-op rehab protocols here at SMNW with a series of 1-3 ultrasound guided prp injections into and around the healing tissues.
